The citizens of Kursk took part in the social campaign “Walk of life”

On 25 November in shopping centre “Manezh” the citizens of Kursk took part in an All-Russian campaign “Walk of life”, held by the Road Traffic Safety Department in Kursk region in partnership with the Russian Association of Motor Insurers and the “Road Safety Russia” non-governmental organization.

The objective of the large-scale social campaign “Walk of life” is to convince pedestrians that it is vital to cross the roads only in permitted zones at crosswalks and that non-observance of the rules may entail severe consequences. The campaign was initiated by the Road Traffic Safety Department at the Ministry of Interior of Russian Federation in partnership with the Russian Association of Motor Insurers and the “Road Safety Russia” NGO.

According to the Road Traffic Safety Department representatives, during the period from January to October 2012 in 1727 car accidents on Kursk roads 248 people were killed and 2144 injured. Through the pedestrians’ fault in 219 car accidents 43 people were killed and 190 people sustained injuries.

The main objective of “Walk of life” social campaign is to reduce the number of victims among pedestrians and to appeal to all members of road traffic to observe regulations. The launch of the event was chosen according to the statistics and complex social research data which show that more than one third of yearly road accidents involving pedestrians occur during the period from October to December.

An educative and instructional family event, which is a part of  the large-scale social campaign “Walk of life” was held on 25 November on “Mother’s Day” in “Manezh” shopping centre in Kursk (4b, Schepkina str.) from 13.00 p.m. till 17.00 p.m.

Famous Kursk citizens like: Russian foil fencer, the Olympic champion Evgenia Lamonova, judo World champion Vladimir Sheremetcev and many others.

On-line games, competitions, lessons were specially adapted for visitors of different ages. The members of the event were rewarded with special promotional prizes and gifts.
