New road markings in Moscow

Special box junctions will show where not to stop

Three junctions in Moscow will see new road markings – special lines painted on the road where you cannot stop at red lights. This statement by Evgeniy Efremov, Deputy Head of the State Road Traffic Inspectorate Office in Moscow, was referred to by m24.ru.

Yellow or orange criss-cross lines are painted on the road to signify that there is a box junction and to show and remind drivers that it is prohibited to enter a box junction at a red light or if your exit is not clear.

According to Efremov, this pilot road markings project will jump-start in the Northern and South-Eastern Districts of Moscow. Road markings will appear at three junctions: Velozavodskaya st. – Leninskaya Sloboda st., Bashilovskays st. – 2nd Kvesisskaya st., Velozavodskaya st. – Avtozavodskaya st.

Efremov has also mentioned that the decision on the color of the markings has not been made yet. The same goes for the exact timeline of the experiment. It should be noted that the possibility of such road markings in Moscow has been discussed since last year.

Right now, entering a junction and stopping, blocking the flow of traffic in cross direction, results in a fine of 1000 rubles. Crossing a stop line at a red light is punishable by a 800 rubles fine.
